Insana — A Specialty Avocado Worth Seeking Out
Avocado Insana is a specialty selection grown in smaller volumes than household names like Hass or Fuerte, prized by the growers we work with for its rich, creamy flesh and smooth, easy-to-peel skin. Inside, the pale green flesh is dense and buttery, with a full, rounded flavour that works equally well spread on toast or blended into a smooth guacamole. As with most avocado varieties, colour is a rough guide at best — the reliable test is a gentle squeeze near the stem, which should give slightly under light pressure without feeling soft or bruised. Because it's grown in smaller batches, availability can shift through the year, so if you've tried it once and loved it, it's worth ordering again while it's in stock. Once ripe, it keeps a day or two longer in the fridge than the more delicate varieties, making it a forgiving choice if your plans change.

-
How to tell when Insana is ripe
Don't rely on colour. Press gently near the stem — ripe gives slightly under light pressure without feeling mushy. Still firm? Leave at room temperature and check daily.
-
How to cut & use Avocado Insana
Halve lengthwise around the pit, twist to separate, remove the pit with a spoon. The dense flesh scoops out cleanly for guacamole or slices neatly for toast and salads.
-
How to store Avocado Insana
Unripe: room temperature, out of direct sun. Ripe: refrigerate, use within 3-4 days — slightly more forgiving than more delicate varieties. Cut half: wrap tightly with the pit in, use within 2 days.
Its dense, buttery flesh works equally well spread on toast or blended into a smooth guacamole — a versatile choice for most avocado recipes.
A good source of monounsaturated fats, fibre, and potassium — the same heart-healthy profile you'd expect from any quality avocado, in a rich, creamy package.
