Bananito — Not a Baby Version of a Banana, a Different Experience Entirely

It's tempting to think of bananito as simply a smaller banana, but the difference goes beyond size. At around 8 to 10 centimetres long, with a thinner peel, the flesh is noticeably sweeter and creamier than a standard banana, with hints that people often describe as honey or apple rather than the more neutral taste of the common variety. Ripening follows the same pattern as any banana — green to yellow to a fully vibrant yellow with a slightly soft give — but because bananito is smaller, it moves through that process a little faster, so check it daily rather than assuming it'll hold as long as a regular bunch.
