Beef Tomatoes — The One Built for the Job of Slicing
Beefsteak tomatoes exist for one purpose: to be sliced. Everything about the variety serves that goal — large size, thick walls of dense flesh, relatively few seeds, and a mild, straightforward flavour that doesn't overpower whatever it's paired with. A single slice from a beef tomato can cover an entire slice of bread, which is exactly why it's the standard choice for burgers, sandwiches, and thick summer salads where you want substantial, structural pieces rather than something that falls apart. The flavour is gentler and less complex than an heirloom variety bred for taste above all else, but that's a fair trade for the size, texture, and reliability that make it genuinely useful in the kitchen rather than just a specialty item.

How to tell it's ripe

How to store Beef Tomatoes
Room temperature, out of direct sun, for the best flavour. Refrigerate only once fully ripe, and use within 5-6 days.
lice thick for burgers and sandwiches, or dice for a hearty salad — the substantial, low-seed flesh holds its shape and doesn't make things soggy.
A good source of lycopene, vitamin C, and potassium — the classic tomato nutrient profile, in a size generous enough to cover real ground on a plate.
