Cocktail Avocado — The One With No Pit to Fight
These finger-sized avocados aren't a separate species — they're what happens when an avocado flower, usually on a Fuerte or Ettinger tree, doesn't get fully pollinated. Without pollination, the seed never develops, and the result is a small, cucumber-shaped fruit, roughly 5 to 8 centimetres long, with the same creamy, buttery flesh as a full-size avocado but nothing to cut around. The skin is notably thinner than a standard avocado's, smooth and glossy, and thin enough that many people eat it right along with the flesh rather than peeling it off. Because they only occur when pollination is incomplete, supply is naturally limited and seasonal — when you see them, they're worth grabbing. Beyond the novelty, the appeal is genuinely practical: no pit means no risk of the knife slip that sends thousands of people to the ER each year trying to core a regular avocado.

-
How to tell it's ripe
Press gently along its length — ripe gives slightly all over, the same test as any avocado, just applied to a much smaller fruit.
-
How to cut & use Cocktail Avocado
Slice into rounds or lengthwise strips — no pit to remove. The thin skin is often edible, so peeling is optional, not required.

How to store Cocktail Avocado
Unripe: room temperature, out of direct sun, a few days to ripen. Ripe: refrigerate, use within 2-3 days — being small and thin-skinned, it's more delicate than a full-size avocado.
Slice into rounds, skin and all, and use as an easy garnish or canapé topper — no cutting board drama, no pit to work around.
The same monounsaturated fats, fibre, and vitamin E as a full-size avocado, just in a snack-sized, no-mess portion.
Foarte bun!
