Grapefruit BIO — Weigh It in Your Hand, Not With Your Eyes

Like all citrus, grapefruit doesn't ripen any further once it's off the tree — it's picked when it's ready, and colour alone is a surprisingly unreliable way to judge that readiness. A grapefruit can carry patches of green even when perfectly ripe, and a fully orange or pink rind doesn't guarantee it's juicy. The trick growers actually use is weight: pick it up, and a heavier fruit for its size almost always means more juice inside, while a light one for its size is more likely to be dry. Firm, smooth skin without soft spots or wrinkling is the other thing to check. Grown organically without synthetic pesticides, the flesh inside ranges from pale yellow to deep pink depending on variety, with a flavour that balances citrus tartness against real sweetness.

  • How to tell it's a good one

Don't judge by colour — green patches are normal even when ripe. Pick it up: heavier for its size means juicier. Skin should be firm and smooth, not soft or wrinkled.

  • How to cut & use Grapefruit

Halve it crosswise and eat with a spoon, or peel like an orange and separate into segments, removing the white pith if you prefer a milder taste.

  • How to store Grapefruit

Room temperature for about a week, or refrigerate for up to a month — the skin's natural protection means it keeps well either way. Cut fruit: airtight container, use within 2-3 days.

Halve it and eat with a spoon, or peel and separate into segments for salads — its balance of tart and sweet works well on its own, no sugar needed.
