Mandarins — Sweet, Fast, and No Effort Required
Mandarins are the citrus fruit built for convenience — thin, loose skin that peels away with your thumbs in seconds, no knife required, wrapped around segments that separate cleanly. Like all citrus, they don't ripen any further once picked, so what's in the box is exactly as sweet as it's going to get. Colour isn't a fully reliable guide to ripeness — a fruit can be fully orange without necessarily being the juiciest — so the better check is weight: pick one up, and it should feel heavy for its size, which usually means more juice packed inside. A strong, sweet citrus smell when you scratch the skin is another good sign. Fine dimples on the peel are completely normal; soft spots or wrinkling are the things to actually watch for.

How to tell it's a good one
Colour alone won't tell you much. Pick it up — heavier for its size usually means juicier. A strong citrus smell when you scratch the skin is a good sign too.

How to use Mandarins
Peel with your thumbs starting at the top — the skin comes away easily. Separate into segments and eat fresh, or add to salads for a citrus lift.
-
How to store Mandarins
Room temperature for about a week, or refrigerate for up to two weeks for longer freshness. Peeled segments: airtight container, use within 1-2 days.
Peel with your thumbs and eat the segments straight — the easiest snack in the box, no knife or plate required.
A great source of vitamin C and fibre, with a natural sweetness that makes them an easy fruit to reach for daily, kids included.
