Para-Chupar — Mango, But Make It Interactive
"Para chupar" means "for sucking" in Spanish, and the name isn't marketing — it's an instruction. Across Latin America, this style of small, juicy mango isn't sliced or cubed at all; you knead the fruit gently in your hands to loosen the pulp inside, bite or cut a small opening at the top, and suck and squeeze the sweet juice and soft pulp straight out through the skin. It's messier than a knife-and-cutting-board mango and genuinely more fun, closer to eating a popsicle than a piece of fruit. The flesh tends to be extra juicy and a little more fibrous than table varieties like Kent or Ataulfo, which is exactly what makes the squeeze-and-suck method work so well — that fiber holds the pulp together as you work it loose. Ripeness is judged by feel: the fruit should give easily all over when gently squeezed, softer than you'd want for a mango you're planning to slice.

How to tell when it's ripe
It should give easily all over when gently squeezed — softer than a slicing mango. A sweet smell at the stem end confirms it's ready.

How to store Mango Para-Chupar
Unripe: room temperature, out of direct sun, a few days to ripen. Ripe: refrigerate, use within 2-3 days — it's delicate once fully soft.
Knead it gently to loosen the pulp, bite a small opening at the top, and suck and squeeze the juice straight out — the traditional Latin American way to eat it.
A good source of vitamin C, vitamin A, and fibre — the interactive, hands-on way of eating it makes it a fun way to get your fruit fix.
