Valencia Pride — Florida's Long, Elegant Late-Bloomer

Named after the Miami street where the original tree grew rather than the Spanish city, Valencia Pride is a Florida classic — a Haden seedling from the 1930s prized for its striking, elongated shape and genuinely excellent eating quality. The skin is yellow with a soft pink blush that can appear well before the fruit is fully mature, so treat it as a general hint rather than a countdown timer. The flesh is firm, light yellow, and nearly fiberless, with a medium-sweet flavour carrying notes of stone fruit and honey — though sweetness can vary a little from one batch to the next, part of what makes it feel like a genuinely grown fruit rather than a standardised product. It's a midseason variety, so it tends to overlap with the more common mangoes rather than filling an early or late gap. Judge ripeness the same way as most mangoes: a gentle press should reveal a slight give.
