Mangosteen — Often Called the "Queen of Fruits," and It Delivers
Mangosteen has a devoted following that borders on obsession, and one taste explains why: beneath a thick, tough, deep purple rind sits snow-white flesh, divided into segments like a small orange, with a sweet-tart flavour that's genuinely hard to compare to anything else. It's picked ripe and arrives ready to eat, no waiting required — what you're checking for is a rind that still gives slightly to a gentle squeeze, since one that's gone completely hard has usually dried out and lost some of its juiciness. Opening one takes a bit of effort but no tools: twist off the small stem cap, then press your thumbs into the rind until it cracks and pulls apart, revealing the flesh inside.

-
How to tell it's good
It arrives ripe and ready to eat. Press the rind gently — it should give slightly. A rind gone completely hard has usually dried out and is past its best.
-
How to open & use Mangosteen
Twist off the stem cap, then press your thumbs into the rind around the middle until it cracks and pulls apart. Eat the white segments straight from the shell.
-
How to store Mangosteen
Refrigerate as soon as it arrives, use within 5-7 days. Opened fruit: airtight container, use within 1-2 days.
Twist off the stem, press the rind open with your thumbs, and eat the segments straight — some contain a seed, so bite carefully around it.
Rich in antioxidants (including xanthones, unique to mangosteen) plus vitamin C and fibre — a fruit with a reputation that extends beyond flavour.
Very good
