Pineapple Tomato — Named for the Look, Not the Flavour (Mostly)
Cut one open and it's obvious where the name comes from: golden-orange skin marbled with red gives way to flesh in the same swirling colours, radiating out from the centre almost like a slice of tropical fruit. The flavour lives up to the visual promise more than you'd expect — sweet and mild with genuinely low acidity, plus a faint citrus tang that shows up in the aftertaste. This is a beefsteak-type heirloom, so the flesh is dense and meaty with relatively few seeds, but the skin is notably thin for a tomato this large, which means handling it a little more gently than you would a firmer variety. It's best treated as a showpiece: sliced thick for a salad or sandwich where its marbled interior can actually be seen, rather than diced into a sauce where the colour and drama disappear.

How to tell it's ripe
Look for the skin to be mostly golden-orange with red marbling fully developed — a slight give when pressed confirms it's ready. The thin skin bruises easily, so handle gently.

How to cut & use Pineapple Tomatoes
Slice thick with a sharp knife to keep the marbled pattern intact. Best eaten fresh — its low acidity and meaty texture don't need cooking to shine.

How to store Pineapple Tomatoes
Room temperature, out of direct sun, and stored in a single layer if possible — the thin skin can bruise under the weight of stacked fruit. Use within 3-4 days.
Slice thick and serve simply — its marbled interior is part of the appeal, so let it show in a salad or on a sandwich rather than hiding it in a sauce.
A good source of lycopene, vitamin C, and potassium — the low acidity makes it an easier tomato on sensitive stomachs than sharper varieties.
Foarte gustoase!
